The Students’ Union building recently underwent a £20 million refurbishment meaning there’s even more room for the things you want to do. The building features cafes, shops, bars, an advice centre and an activities and sports zone where students can join over 300 sports clubs and societies. There’s something different happening in the SU every day; from club nights to film screenings, live music, theatrical performances and fascinating talks.
The SU is an organisation run for students, by students. Eight Union Officers are elected annually by the study body to direct the SU and represent its students. The Students’ Union offers the opportunity for students to get involved and make their issues heard – a collective voice of over 27,000 people.

Our library services are built with you in mind and we’re dedicated to providing the best learning environment for our students.
That’s why we’ve been voted joint first for our library services out of 122 institutions.
The five library sites at the University of Sheffield contain over 1.3 million books and periodicals. They also provide access to millions of digital resources whenever you need them.
There are 3,532 study spaces and 2,096 available for student use.
The Diamond is open round the clock and boasts unrivalled innovation in study facilities. As well as hosting an on-demand print collection and the highest demand text books, it also features sector-leading creative media facilities including private editing booths and a full TV studio.
The Information Commons is open 24/7, giving you access to 1,300 study spaces, extensive technology support and a high demand collection of 120,000 volumes.
Western Bank Library is a grade II listed building, offering study spaces designed to inspire your best work. It houses extensive research collections and is also home to our Special collections and National Fairground and Circus Archive.
The Health Sciences Library at the heart of the medical school, offers a large discipline based collection and a range of study spaces for independent and group study.
Undergraduate students at Sheffield have the chance to get involved in a range of global activities – both at home and abroad – to develop their international experience.

Varsity is the city’s annual sporting competition between the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam.
The Varsity Sports programme is carried out in a positive way by both Universities ensuring it is inclusive for the clubs involved but also for the supporters and the community.
Varsity is a celebration of sport at Sheffield, showcasing the cities fantastic facilities and capabilities for high profile sporting events. The competition provides an opportunity for all sports men and women to be equal regardless of the standard of play or the sport they are part of.
